Steve is a Negaunee native and a graduate of Negaunee High School. He received both his undergraduate and his law degree from the University of Michigan and has been practicing law in Marquette County since 1970.

Steve is long active in local and state civic affairs, previously serving as a member of the Michigan Transportation Commission, Marquette County Airport Board, and as chair of the Alger-Marquette Community Mental Health Board. From 2000 to 2006, Steve served as the State Representative for the 109th District where he was a member of the Judiciary, Health Policy and Transportation Committees. He also served on the Michigan Law Revision Commission. His practice emphasizes real estate and bank law and the probating of decedents' estates.
